Battle: Los Angeles Movie Review

This is the ideal movie for people who enjoy war and science fiction stories. Unlike the now common movies in which nations fight against each other, this movie is based on a plot on which the whole earth is up against aliens.

The Aliens first crash into oceans in objects that look like meteorites. Later, it is established without doubt that the ostensible meteorites are actually spacecrafts with hostile aliens. These aliens had crushed in such a way that they strategically positioned to stage attacks effectively on some of the earth’s major cities like Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro, New York, Hong Kong, London, Paris, Barcelona, Hamburg and Sydney.

As a measure of defense, U.S. marines from Camp Pendleton converge to engage the ground alien forces and evacuate civilians in Los Angeles to create a safe ground for
bombing the aliens without posing any threat to human life.

In the evacuation operation, a platoon is sent to evacuate civilians from LAPD police station. The platoon is to do so before the three-hour deadline elapses in order for bombing to begin. Getting to the police station becomes exceedingly difficult because of constant attacks from the ground Alien forces. In fact, some of the squadron members even suffer different causalities.

The platoon on reaching the police station they find five civilians hiding in the station. The evacuation process via a helicopter begins and unfortunately, Alien drones destroy it. This prompts them to ask for a bus for a second rescue attempt, and right before the second trial of evacuation, they find an injured alien. This becomes a blessing in disguise; as it is through that particular alien that they learn their weakness-One of them being that they have a weak point right at the torso. They also learn about their military tactics by confirming that they use radio-controlled drones, and they monitor the earth’s defense by listening into radio conversations by the army.

They then come up with a grand plan of finding the alien’s central base and destroying it, hence disabling them unreservedly. However, to do so, they have to proceed with the evacuation, which proves extremely difficult because of the constant attacks by aliens. In one of the attacks, a civilian, Rincon is injured, and the platoon commander sacrifices himself to detonate explosives within the bus in order to counteract the attack.

Nantz, a platoon member, is left in charge and he leads the others to a convenience store to take cover. They then wait for the bombing to start only to discover that the aliens have attacked the central station therefore nullifying the attack. They also learn that they Aliens have attacked earth for water, of which they convert it to fuel.

A third eviction effort is made via a helicopter, but just before Nantz boards the helicopter, he spots an alien command centre located within the ground.

The platoon then disembarks from the helicopter to combat the aliens and destroy the control centre thus crippling the alien attack. Will they be successful or is the earth doomed?
